Caregiver-Mediated Early Years Program (C-MEY)

The Caregiver-Mediated Early Years Program (C-MEY) supports families with children 12 to 48 months of age at the time they begin the program, who have a diagnosis of autism and are registered with the Ontario Autism Program (OAP).

The Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent (CTC-CK) offers Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) as its C-MEY program. Through PRT, parents and caregivers learn practical, evidence-informed strategies from trained professionals that can be incorporated into everyday activities and routines.

The program focuses on building parent and caregiver capacity to support their child’s development in areas such as:

• Social interaction
• Communication
• Play
• Emotional development
• Adaptive development and self-help skills

CTC-CK’s C-MEY Program: Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT)

Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) is a naturalistic, play-based approach that focuses on increasing a child’s motivation, communication, social interaction, and engagement. Parents and caregivers are supported to use PRT strategies within everyday routines and activities with their child.

Eligibility

To participate in the C-MEY Program at CTC-CK, your child must:

• Be registered with the Ontario Autism Program (OAP)
• Be between 12 and 48 months of age when beginning PRT.
• Have up to 12 months to complete the PRT program. Children may continue and complete the program after turning 4 years old, provided they begin PRT before 48 months of age.
• Have received an invitation to participate in C-MEY from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS)

Registering for PRT at CTC-CK

Once you receive your C-MEY invitation, CTC-CK will complete an intake with your family to determine eligibility and support registration for the PRT program.
