Social Work

Raising a child with special needs or being a person with special needs brings with it new opportunities and new challenges. Social Workers provide supportive counselling, information, and resources to help families and clients who are coping with special needs or a diagnosis.

Who We Are:

Social Workers are registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). Our social workers are accountable for practicing in accordance with the standards of social work practice and professional behaviour set out by the College.

What We Provide:

Our Social Workers may provide:

  • Counselling services for children and families to help develop healthy coping strategies, build social skills, and promote positive self-image and self-esteem.
  • Information on how to access community supports and resources such as financial assistance, mental health services, respite, and specialized counselling.
  • Supportive counselling to help families and caregivers understand and accept a diagnosis or their child’s needs.
  • Education for families and caregivers to help build their advocacy skills, case management, and service coordination skills to enable them to support their child as they grow and transition to school, high school, and adulthood.
