School Based Rehabilitation Services

The Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent (CTC-CK) provides School-Based Rehabilitation Services (SBRS) ) to students from JK through secondary school exit, with rehabilitation needs that impact their ability to safely access the curriculum and functionally participate in school.  These services are provided in collaboration with the following publicly funded school boards:

  • Conseil scolaire catholique Providence
  • Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB)
  • St. Clair Catholic District School Board (SCCDSB)

Who We Are:

The SBRS team is made up of Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy Assistants, Speech and Language Pathologists, and Communicative Disorders Assistants.

What We Provide:

We work alongside students, families, and educators to support meaningful participation at school. Together, we identify goals and develop practical strategies that help students build the skills they need to access learning and complete daily school activities.

Our services may include:

  • Inclusive classroom strategies and supports that promote participation for all learners
  • Collaboration with teachers to develop effective classroom supports and share resources
  • Parent and caregiver coaching and resources to reinforce learning at home
  • Consultation with families and school teams to support school-based goals
  • Individual or small-group sessions that address skills needed for success at school
  • Home activities that complement and reinforce school-based learning

How to Refer:

Connect with Your Child’s School Team

Referrals to this program are made through your child’s school. If you think your child may benefit from these services, we encourage you to speak with your child’s school team to discuss your concerns and whether a referral is appropriate.  Children who are already receiving occupational therapy (OT), physiotherapy (PT), or speech-language services before starting school may be referred to the School-Based Rehabilitation Services (SBRS) program if they meet the program’s eligibility criteria.  If concerns about your child’s development or participation at school arise after they have started school, your child’s teacher or school team can work with you to determine whether a referral to SBRS is appropriate.

Please note: School-Based Rehabilitation Services are available to students attending publicly funded schools. Families whose children attend a private school or receive home-based education can access Occupational Therapy (OT), Physiotherapy (PT), and Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) services through Ontario Health at Home. What to Expect After a Referral

Once we receive your child’s referral and complete the intake process, we will contact you to obtain the required consent and schedule an assessment as soon as an appointment becomes available. The clinician will follow up with you after the assessment to discuss assessment results and next steps.  You will receive a written report outlining the assessment findings and recommendations.
